Julie Daulton is a shareholder in the Minneapolis office of Merchant & Gould. Her practice emphasizes intellectual property law with a focus on patents. Julie's patent practice includes portfolio development and strategy in mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, client counseling, and opinion matters. Her depth of expertise includes writing and prosecuting hundreds of patent applications; and conducting invalidity investigations, infringement studies, non-infringement design-around counseling, and competitive patent portfolio analyses. Julie has prosecuted inter-parte and ex-parte reexaminations and reissues. Julie also has coordinated foreign patent oppositions on behalf of the patent holder and the opposer.

As an example of Julie's expertise, she wrote and prosecuted a patent for an individual inventor that was eventually litigated by Merchant & Gould. The case, Bowling v. Hasbro, was litigated through appeal at the Federal Circuit. As a result, the patent was held valid, infringed, and enforceable. The judgment resulted in a substantial six-figure judgment for the inventor.

While in law school, Julie was a Patent Examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C.
