Kent Stier serves as the Managing Partner of Merchant & Gould's Atlanta Office and a member of the firm's electronics and computer law practice group. His practice involves client counseling, opinion work, patent procurement, and patent prosecution. Mr. Stier concentrates in the areas of computer software, electronics, broadband transmission networks, cable television, electric utilities, smart grid, telecommunications, agricultural equipment, and business methods. Kent advises clients on all aspects of Intellectual Property law including the establishment, procurement, management and development of their domestic and international IP strategy and portfolios. His practice includes due diligence investigations; IP assessment and valuation; validity and infringement opinions; domestic and international IP management counseling; licensing; patentability and use-clearance searching.

Prior to entering law school, Mr. Stier worked in the electric utility industry, holding various engineering and engineering management positions. Mr. Stier has been a registered professional engineer in the state of Georgia since 1990.
