René practices intellectual property law including patent, trademark, and copyright law. His practice focuses on U.S. and international patent prosecution, intellectual property strategic planning, technology licensing and patent litigation support. René also counsels clients with respect to patent infringement and patent validity issues. His patent experience includes drafting and prosecuting patents in a variety of technology areas including semiconductor processing equipment, gaming devices, mechanical devices, extractive metallurgy, nanoparticle manufacturing, fuel cells, and computer software.

René has worked for clients ranging from solo inventors to Fortune 500 companies. In addition to drafting and prosecuting key patents, he has worked on a number of strategically important projects for his clients. René has assisted in the preparation of significant freedom to operate opinions for a client considering the development of new business units. He has also assisted in evaluating large patent portfolios and drafting infringement opinions analyzing the infringement of a client's patents by competitors.

In addition to his legal experience, René also worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Dynamic Properties Team during summers in college and law school. His work at Los Alamos included developing chemical/mechanical polishing and etching techniques for materials subjected to high strain rates. He also assisted in characterizing the behavior of a number of metals subjected to high strain rates. While at New Mexico Tech, René also researched the fracture mechanisms of intermetallic alloys such as Ni3Si.
