The city in a nutshell: The largest city in Minnesota and part of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minneapolis is consistently ranked high in surveys of best cities to work and live. With low unemployment, a variety of growing industries and sectors, and plenty of urban green living initiatives from clean water to bike trails, Minneapolis is known for its high quality of life.
Our economic engine: Minneapolis is home to many Fortune 500 companies, high-tech firms, manufacturing companies, retail chains, financial companies, and the University of Minnesota. The city's creative class is also thriving, with more live theater per capita than any other city besides New York, and a fertile ground for the arts and music.
Around the neighborhoods: Downtown Minneapolis features a skyscraper skyline, sports arenas (the Minnesota Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins), many theaters, restaurants, nightclubs, and museums. Other neighborhoods in the city are diverse, from sought-after lakeside real estate to quiet suburban communities to campus-oriented neighborhoods near the University.
We're famous for: F. Scott Fitzgerald, Charles Schultz, Betty Crocker, Walter Mondale, the 52-block skyway system connecting nearly 5 miles of downtown, and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”
Must-see sights: The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota, Walker Art Center & Sculpture Garden, Mill City Museum, Mall of America, Guthrie Theater, and the Fitzgerald Theater.
