Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property and litigation law firm, announced that Hema L. Viswanthan has joined its Minneapolis office as an associate attorney. Hema practices general intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution and client counseling.
Her practice focuses primarily on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and chemicals. Her graduate research involved the study of advanced materials such as ceramics, polymers and composites. As a postdoctoral fellow at Kansas State University, Hema also gained experience in the areas of molecular biology and tissue engineering. She has authored several scientific publications in the areas of materials chemistry and cellular and molecular biology.
Hema obtained her J.D., with honors, from the University of Minnesota University School of Law. While at law school, Hema was the managing editor of the Minnesota Law Review. She obtained a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Kansas State University. She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the American Chemical Society.
