When Scott first started as a patent draftsman in 1984, the department created technical illustrations with India ink on Bristol board. These days, they use highly specialized software to create drawings and illustrations for patents and trademarks, which attorneys use to write strong patent and trademark applications.
Scott joined Merchant & Gould in 1984, after working as a draftsman for several companies, including IBM. As the Drafting Manager, he supervises the work flow of the patent drafting department, creates drawings prepared and inked to USPTO specifications, and acts as a liaison between attorneys and his department. He likes the variety of the job, working on a drawing for roller blades one day and a biochemical material for cancer research the next.
Scott enjoys playing Texas hold 'em and racing go karts.
