As a mechanical engineer turned patent agent, Tom uses his specialized technical knowledge to get to the heart of his clients' inventions and translate that information into a patent with the best and broadest coverage possible.
Tom is a registered patent agent in the Minneapolis office, working with clients on new patent applications, responding to office actions on pending applications, helping coordinate and synchronize foreign and domestic filing responses, performing clearance searches, and conducting invention disclosure interviews.
Tom is a patent owner himself and the sole inventor on 15 and co-inventor on 4 U.S. patents, including 11 on devices that reduce drag on semi-trucks. Tom is also the inventor on 5 PCT patent applications and 20 foreign patents. He worked with a Merchant & Gould attorney on several corporate and personal patents, and eventually joined the firm as a staff engineer, passing the patent bar in 2011 to become a registered patent agent. His professional background includes mechanical engineer positions at Boeing, primarily at the Wind Tunnel; Caterpillar, on paving and road-grinding equipment; and Tetra Pak, primarily in high-speed injection molding and carton-handling equipment.
In his off hours, Tom spends time developing his aerodynamic devices, attending his son's track & field and cross-country meets, his older daughter's swim meets, and his younger daughter's piano recitals.
