Joe practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent related matters. His litigation experiences include working with senior litigators in developing and implementing litigation strategies, drafting and arguing motions, preparing pleadings, coordinating discovery, and conducting infringement, validity, and enforceability analyses. Joe's transactional and prosecution related experiences include preparing patent applications, preparing responses to Office Actions, conducting examiner interviews, preparing appeal briefs, analyzing patentability and clearance issues, and general intellectual property counseling. Joe uses his litigation expertise in the preparation and prosecution of patents that can be licensed or otherwise enforced. Through his transactional and prosecution practice, Joe has developed an in-depth and practical understanding of the patent laws, rules, and United States Patent Office procedures, which he routinely employs in patent litigation.
Joe has worked with solo inventors as well as large clients including 3M, Microsoft, Motorola, Honda, Donaldson Company, ADC Telecommunications, and August Technology. Before attending law school, Joe worked as a design and process engineer at a plastics manufacturing company. Joe also has experience with the design of biomedical tools, automotive and motorcycle components, water management systems, and heating and cooling systems. Outside of the office, Joe enjoys rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing, snowboarding, motorcycling, and traveling.
