Merchant & Gould Names Mark Skoog and Erik Swenson Shareholders

Intellectual property law firm Merchant & Gould has promoted Mark Skoog and Erik Swenson as shareholders in its Minneapolis office. A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Mark Skoog practices general intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution and client counseling. His practice areas include patent protection in biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical arts, and he has drafted and prosecuted patents in the areas of chemistry, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and power tools. Skoog has also concentrated on infringement and validity analyses of patents in biotechnology and chemistry, and counseling clients on the results of these analyses. He has a B.A. from Carlton College, a Ph.D. from Indiana University, and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota.

Erik Swenson practices general intellectual property law with an emphasis on counseling clients on matters relating to technology and innovation for the electrical, software, and mechanical arts. He is skilled in developing and managing patent portfolios, developing business strategies, and infringement/validity studies. In addition to his legal experience, Swenson has extensive technical experience gained from his research position in MIT's Intelligent Engineering Systems Laboratory. Swenson has a B.S. from Marquette University, a M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota.
