M&G Denver’s very own Kathy Ott was named Law Week Colorado’s “Best Intellectual Property Lawyer – Non-Litigator” by her peers as the “People’s Choice” winner. Law Week asked members of the local legal community to weigh in on who they thought was the best in this category; and no surprise, Kathy was selected.
According to Law Week with collective input from the colleagues who nominated her, “Kathy’s career trajectory has been quite something. She’s gone from being a dialysis tech to a science teacher to a stay-at-home mom to a patent portfolio guru. She’s gained a reputation in the IP community for orchestrating complex patent analysis projects, as well as for her pro bono work. She’s on the steering committee for the ProBoPat program and has long been active in promoting girls’ education in the STEM fields.”
As a partner at Merchant & Gould, Kathy’s practice is concentrated on patent prosecution and analysis. She focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications in a variety of technology areas, from software to medical device technologies. Her practice also involves providing non-infringement and invalidity opinions regarding patents and products, from pharmaceuticals to medical devices to radio frequency transponders.
Kathy applies her background in science and technology to help her clients push the envelope with their cutting-edge technologies. As a proponent for all areas of science and technology, she is always helping clients expand their ideas and inventions. Kathy also helps advance science opportunities for girls in STEM by providing strategies and tools to several inspiring community organizations.
“We are all delighted, but not surprised, to see Kathy honored in this manner. She is a phenomenally talented lawyer, and an even better person,” said Greg Leibold, managing partner of Merchant & Gould’s Denver office. “Kathy is a leader within our firm, the IP bar, and the greater Denver community. No one is more deserving of this recognition.”
