John Gould of Merchant & Gould Given Distinguished Alumni Award by Minnesota Law Review

March 20, 2013

Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property law firm, today announced that firm co-founder John Gould has been honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Minnesota Law Review, the law journal published by the University of Minnesota Law School.

Each year, the Minnesota Law Review honors several of its own alumni who have made extraordinary contributions to the legal profession and society with the Distinguished Alumni Awards. Gould will be recognized at this year’s Law Review Banquet on April 11 at Windows on Minnesota.

Gould was recruited by Ralph Merchant in 1954 and became the second lawyer to join the firm that was then called Merchant & Merchant. He quickly proved his dedication to clients and to growing the firm when his name was added to the door and Merchant & Merchant became Merchant & Gould in 1957. John graduated from Marshall High School in 1945 where he served as valedictorian before going on to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota where he also received a Bachelor's Degree in Physics with distinction in 1950. He received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1963.
