Merchant & Gould, an intellectual property law firm, is pleased to announce that Minnesota Lawyer has selected Brent E. Routman as one of its honorees for the Attorney of the Year 2011 award. Routman specializes in trademark, copyright, internet and advertising law.
"It's no secret that Brent is one of the community's most respected and trusted attorneys," said Brian H. Batzli, CEO and managing director, Merchant & Gould. "We are very proud of Brent's work with various legal organizations and the Minnesota State Bar Association. We're extremely pleased to have him as our partner at Merchant & Gould."
Routman currently serves as the president of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) and is also chairman of its LawPAC, a member of its Governance Committee, a representative to the ABA House of Delegates, and co-chair of the Hennepin County Bar Association Nominating Committee. He is also a member of the Florida Bar Association.
Routman was also recently elected to be president of the Coalition for Impartial Justice, a group formed to implement the recommendations of the Quie Commission and to support the passage of a state constitutional amendment to create a system of merit selection and retention of state court judges to replace the system of contested elections currently used in the state.
According to Minnesota Lawyer, the 25 honorees were chosen based on the following criteria: leadership in the profession, involvement in major cases or other newsworthy events, excellence in corporate or transactional services and public service. The nominations were submitted by judges, bar groups, clients and fellow attorneys. The honorees come from diverse practice groups including criminal law, litigation, intellectual property and in-house legal service.
