Chris practices intellectual property law in Merchant & Gould’s Electrical & Software group. He focuses his practice on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Chris is a former research engineer at 3M where he provided optics expertise to teams developing optical film products for the LCD industry.
Chris has always been fascinated by technology and science. He embraced that passion first when attending Bethel University in St. Paul to pursue a degree in Physics. He furthered that passion by getting his M.S. and then his Ph.D. in Optical Science from the University of Arizona. He returned to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he worked at 3M for over 13 years, providing optics expertise for several divisions regarding anti-reflection design, display surface optics, haze, clarity, transmission, luminance, color, diffraction, brightness, polarization, and spectrometry.
Research, Experience & Inventions
Chris brings to Merchant & Gould an expansive portfolio of optics experience and research. From developing several new products for LCD devices at 3M to winning awards for his scholarship, including a GAANN Fellowship while at the University of Arizona, he has been instrumental in many research and development efforts.
Additionally, with issued patents of his own, Chris knows the challenges facing inventors today. He uses his experiences in designing and developing unique optics inventions to better protect clients. While Chris can work with innovators from various industries, he focuses his efforts on assisting those in electronics and computer technology.
