Jesse G. Fermin is a Foreign Filing Paralegal based in Merchant & Gould’s Atlanta, Georgia office. Supporting the IP attorneys throughout our entire firm, Jesse works to ensure critical documentation is received and filed on behalf of our international clients seeking patent protection.

Experienced Paralegal Focused on Foreign Filing

Jesse’s responsibilities include filing PCT applications, national stage applications, direct national stage applications and more on behalf of our international clients. He also corresponds with foreign nationals to acquire the documents needed to file these critical applications.

Jesse is also responsible for maintaining the foreign filing docket for our attorneys, ensuring critical application deadlines are met. He is bilingual in both English and Spanish and has years of experience in foreign filing and legal work.

Jesse enjoys the challenge of IP law and how every day is a learning experience. His dedication to the details and hard work enables the attorneys throughout Merchant & Gould to continue to provide high-quality service to our international clients.

From Healthcare Law to Intellectual Property

Jesse started his career as a Legal Assistant within the Foley Health Care Industry Team on a national level. During this time, he assisted the team chair and provided advanced administrative and legal support to five attorneys. From managing legal files to handling billing correspondence and compliance, Jesse did it all.

Looking for a more challenging career, Jesse transitioned from healthcare to IP, where he became an IP Foreign Filing Specialist. During this time, he prepared and filed both foreign convention and national phase PCT applications, tracked the status of all applications, prepared PCT responses and ensured all docket deadlines were met.

Now, he serves Merchant & Gould as a critical member of our foreign filing department. 

A History of Advocacy and Leadership

Jesse received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts. Jesse was the Student Government Association President, a member of the Salem State University Alumni Board of Directors, a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Diversity, Affirmative Action, Equity and Social Justice, and a founding member of Black, Brown and Proud. 

Jesse has also received numerous awards, including the New Student of the Year Award, the Martin Luther King Student Leadership Award, the Arthur T. Gerald Diversity in Education Award, the Esther Brophy Citizenship Award and the Student Government Association Presidential Award.

In his spare time, Jesse enjoys shopping and singing to relive his college theatre days.
