Karen is an intellectual property attorney with Merchant & Gould’s Minneapolis office. She handles both intellectual property (IP) litigation and patent prosecution matters for clients in the chemical and life sciences industry. Karen holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and a master’s degree in Medicinal Chemistry.

Addressing Immediate Concerns With an Eye Toward the Future

Chemical and life science businesses often have myriad inventions that require strong protection and oversight. And it comes as no surprise that conflicts involving these inventions arise all too often.

Karen is a gifted puzzler and keen strategist. Her knack for being able to take all moving parts and put them together in a seamless manner makes her an integral part of any litigation team.

What’s more, she brings her strategic focus to all aspects of a case or an IP portfolio. From the outset, she digs deep to ensure she uncovers all fundamental elements of the situation. Then she uses her experience and skill to write detailed briefs, craft strong arguments, and advocate for her clients whether in Court or at the USPTO.

When you want to ensure your IP portfolio is managed well in relation to your business plan and overarching business goals, you want Karen on your team.

Keeping Perspective

It’s easy to find yourself lost down a rabbit hole when faced with an unexpected issue involving your patented, trademarked or copyrighted material. Karen will help you keep your feet on the ground by taking a bigger picture view of your situation.

Karen’s also good about keeping perspective in her own life. While she works hard and goes to bat for clients every day, she knows she can only bring her best by allowing herself some downtime. So, outside the office, you’ll find her indulging in her passions: swing dancing, cooking, and cheering for the Kansas Jayhawks.
