Leo R. Wen is an intellectual property attorney with Merchant & Gould’s Atlanta office. Focusing on patent preparation and prosecution, Leo assists technology companies in protecting their most valuable intangibles. With a robust technology background and global perspective, he uses his prior work experience in both China and the U.S. to create strong patent strategies and further client goals.

Leo served as a Patent Engineer for the largest IP law firm in China, China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd., where he prosecuted 180+ patent applications and assisted the group in patent infringement analysis.

Prior to becoming an integral part of Merchant & Gould, Leo interned and practiced with Locke Lord LLP in Atlanta, where he gained experience in both patent prosecution and patent litigation support.

Beyond his practice, Leo also founded PT Intellectual (Peking University/Tsinghua University IP Club) in Shanghai, China, an organization that connects elite intellectual property practitioners such as IP attorneys, in-house counsels, judges and scholars in China.

Leo has nine years of research experience in physics and electrical engineering at top academic institutions in Asia. His hands-on experience working in the laboratory during his Ph.D. program enables him to put himself in his clients’ shoes to best facilitate their needs.

Leo is fluent in both English and Mandarin. He enjoys soccer, football and music.
