As a Patent Agent at Merchant & Gould’s Denver office, Nobu begins working with clients by first listening and learning about their innovations, aspirations and business goals. He then drafts patent applications with the clients’ best interests in mind. His technical experience spans the computer systems, telecommunications, and software fields. This area includes operating systems, software middleware and applications, Voice-over-IP, network security and management, web services, mobile wireless communications, natural language processing, data encryption and decryption, databases, and image processing.
Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Nobu acquired a wealth of experiences in both R&D engineering and technology-intensive businesses. He has worked in engineering and management positions at Toshiba, Sun Microsystems, Research In Motion (BlackBerry) and Japan Communications. Nobu is listed as an inventor on over 40 patents globally. Originally from Japan, Nobu is fluent in Japanese at a native level.
Outside of work, Nobu has been actively participating in community volunteer services to help nurture US-Japan friendship and relations. Currently, he serves as a board member at non-profit organizations such as the Japan America Society of Colorado, Japanese Business Association of the Rockies, and the Colorado Japanese School. Nobu is enrolled as a law student in a part-time J.D. program at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law with the aspiration of becoming a patent attorney.
