Merchant & Gould welcomes Jun Ma, Ph.D., to its Minneapolis office, as a patent agent with more than 10 years of product and scientific experience.  He will support attorneys with his technical background, while also attending law school.

Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Jun was a product development specialist for 3M Company in Maplewood, Minn., innovating new technologies, materials and processes for the company’s global products.  Before then, he was a staff scientist for Life Technologies (now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.) in Eugene, Ore., improving and validating manufacturing processes for quantum dot and bioconjugate products.

Well accomplished, Jun is the inventor of 15 original filed patent applications.  He has had 17 peer-reviewed journal papers published, while also receiving four research and innovation awards.

Jun is a student at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, working toward his J.D. degree, with an expected graduation in 2021. He received his Ph.D. in organic/polymer chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis; earned his masters of science in materials chemistry from Fudan University in Shanghai, China; and also earned his undergraduate degree at Fudan.
