Merchant & Gould opened an office in Los Angeles to support the firm’s growth and expansion into the fashion, furniture, commercial and consumer products industries.  Attorney Scott P. Shaw joined Merchant & Gould as a partner on Jan. 4, to help spearhead and manage the new office, adding his IP litigation practice and focus on fashion business to the firm’s national platform.

Scott brings 18 years of experience to the Litigation Practice Group, specializing in the fashion, retail, technology, sports and footwear, action sports, food and beverage, appliances, and consumer products industries.  He works on all stages of litigation, from general advice and pre-litigation counseling through complex discovery, motion practice, trials and appeals.

In litigation, Scott’s accomplishments include many trial and pretrial victories.  On the client counseling side, he regularly advises clients regarding daily legal issues, licensing agreements, contract negotiations and revisions, intellectual property and brand protection strategies, and other complex business matters. Prior to joining Merchant & Gould, Scott was a shareholder at Call & Jenson in Newport Beach, Calif.

“Scott is an excellent addition to Merchant & Gould, as we continue to expand our litigation front, geographic reach and industry scope.   He has experience in some of the most innovative industries, and he has a well-established reputation for protecting clients with complex issues.  We are excited to have him join us,” said Christopher J. Leonard, Managing Director, CEO, and Chairman of the Board, Merchant & Gould.

“The opening of our Los Angeles office, coupled with Scott’s hire and niche, gives us greater talent, depth and access to new clients on the West Coast.  More than ever, as we anticipate a post-COVID innovation movement with increased demand for intellectual property law, we are also increasing our impact on business and law industries from New York to Los Angeles and in between,” added Chris.

Los Angeles marks Merchant & Gould’s seventh office location.  During the pandemic, the newly opened Los Angeles office will operate remotely.
