Yidi Wu is a Technical Advisor for Merchant & Gould’s New York office. As a Technical Advisor, Yidi supports clients in obtaining patents to protect their critical intellectual property. Her ten years of international experience and interdisciplinary approach to IP sets her apart from others within her industry. She is also qualified as a patent agent and attorney in China.

For our firm, Yidi is responsible for drafting and reviewing patent applications, performing due diligence, analyzing prior art, and developing detailed responses to office actions. 

Currently, Yidi serves clients at the intersection of the mechanical and electronic fields. She has in-depth experience in various tech niches, including AI, autonomous driving systems, drones, cameras, and software.

An Experienced IP Examiner and Analyst

Throughout her years of experience, Yidi has worked in various roles, all revolving around patents and IP. At the beginning of her career, she served the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) as a Supervisory Patent Examiner. In this role, Yidi managed patent quality control and supervised patent landscape reports.

Yidi also supported Dji Drone, a consumer tech company, as an Intellectual Property Manager, tasked with reviewing and drafting patent applications and responses to the USPTO, EPO, CNIPA, and the JPO. In addition, she conducted IP due diligence, analyzed patentability, managed core IP assets, and monitored IP compliance.

Hundreds of Patent Applications Drafted & Reviewed

Over the course of her career thus far, Yidi has played a critical role in the analysis, drafting, and execution of hundreds of patents. During her role with the CNIPA, Yidi handled 700+ Chinese and global patent applications. And with Dji Drone, she reviewed and drafted 200+ applications and responses.

Taking an Interdisciplinary Approach to Intellectual Property

Yidi’s experience with both in-house legal teams and external patent examiners enables her to take an interdisciplinary approach to IP. Not only does she understand the importance of patent protection, but she also understands what patent examiners look for in a patent application.

With this knowledge, Yidi can support her clients in developing high-quality patents that not only protect their IP but also gain approval. As a result, her clients can protect their ideas and inventions now and in the future.

Yidi possesses a Bachelor of Safety Engineering and a Master of Safety Technology and Engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology. She also received her LL.M degree with a concentration in Intellectual Property from Boston University. Yidi actively participates in various industry associations to continuously update her professional connections.

With a multicultural background, Yidi speaks four languages, including English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as playing tennis and listening to opera and jazz.
