Leo R. Wen, Ph.D., Joins as a Patent Prosecution Associate.

Merchant &amp; Gould is excited to welcome Leo R. Wen, Ph.D., as its newest associate in the Atlanta office.  He will bring his patent prosecution experience to the Electrical &amp; Software Group.

Wen’s practice focuses on the prosecution of patents in standard-based 5G telecommunications; semiconductor and chips; artificial intelligence-based automotive (smart car); computer science; physics; optical and electronic devices; medical devices; material science; aerospace; and mechanics.&nbsp; He has more than three years of patent prosecution experience in the United States and China, as well as nine years of research experience in physics and electrical engineering at top academic institutions in Asia.

Prior to joining Merchant &amp; Gould, Wen worked at Locke Lord in Atlanta.&nbsp; And before that, he was a patent engineer in Shanghai, China, serving multinational clients and leading companies in niche markets.&nbsp; He has prosecuted more than 270 patent applications in his previous roles.

Wen founded PT Intellectual, also known as PKU/THU Intellectual Property Club,&nbsp;an organization that connects top intellectual property practitioners in China.&nbsp; Members include a mix of IP attorneys, patent agents, judges and university professors, discussing various IP issues.

Wen earned a B.S. in physics from Peking University; a Ph.D. in microelectronics and solid state electronics from Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and a J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law. &nbsp;&nbsp;He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
