Thomas Carey focuses his practice on intellectual property transactions, licensing, and mergers and acquisitions. He counsels emerging and established technology companies on how to structure, protect, and commercialize their innovations, often serving as a strategic advisor throughout key stages of growth. His work spans patent and technology licensing, corporate structuring, and complex commercial deals involving proprietary assets.

Thomas’s experience includes IP-driven transactions involving software, proprietary data, military training equipment, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. He has deep experience supporting companies navigating government contracting requirements, including compliance with DFARS and ITAR, and often represents inventors and researchers in negotiations with universities and research institutions. He also assists clients with cross-border transactions across Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

With a strong understanding of global privacy frameworks, Thomas helps companies ensure their data-related agreements and practices align with regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA. He often serves as outside general counsel for technology companies, managing high-impact contracts and supporting IP portfolio development.

Thomas is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and several bar associations. He has also served as an adjunct professor at New England School of Law and has been recognized by Massachusetts Super Lawyers® for his work.
