He counsels his clients on intellectual property issues relating to the development and strategic protection of products in the United States and abroad, handling infringement issues, contested matters, and licensing.
Dennis has considerable experience in preparing patent applications, handling clearance and infringement issues, and licensing. He also manages contested matters, including a very large number of European patent oppositions, and handles United States patent reexamination and interference matters. Prior to becoming an attorney, Dennis worked as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where his technical area of responsibility included polymer materials. This insider's edge helps him understand the burdens and obligations of the patent examiners and craft applications that are favorable to his clients' interests.
Dennis has considerable experience in chemical engineering and chemistry technologies, including cleaning technologies, paper manufacture and processing, polymer chemistry and polymer processing techniques, detergents and surfactants, polymerization, extraction, distillation, water purification, metallurgy, paints, and adhesives. Areas of experience in the mechanical arts include medical devices, automotive accessories, material handling equipment, filters, and refrigeration systems.
Dennis represents children pro bono on behalf of the Children's Law Center of Minnesota. He is married and spends most of his spare time attending and participating in the various sports and activities of his four children.
