Garrett’s been a patent drafter and illustrator at Merchant since 2018. In his current role as a drafting manager, his work is integral to the process of securing patents for both domestic and international clients.
Garrett oversees the creation of patents in multiple industries, including machinery, consumer products and user applications. He manages patent drafting for all of Merchant’s offices, primarily focusing on utility patents.
From creating patent drawings to tracking deadlines, Garrett’s skills allow him to quickly meet the needs of the legal team. Once he receives incoming requests, he prioritizes and delegates projects to his team. He also determines whether further information is needed to proceed with designs and all graphic-related matters.
Due to his extensive experience and innate design talents, Garrett's able to efficiently determine how to best visually represent the innovations of clients. His keen eye for detail and ability to synthesize complex information help him recognize and highlight the most important features of an invention for both domestic and international clients.

Garrett has a Bachelor’s degree in Interactive Multimedia from the College of New Jersey. After college, he focused on graphic and video game design before entering the exciting field of patent illustration at Merchant. In his spare time, he creates sheet metal models of historical and fictional structures, as well as digital art. He also enjoys interior design, reading and dabbling in new recipes.
